Internships

Internships and Professional Opportunities

As part of its academic programs, Istituto Lorenzo de’ Medici offers students the possibility to learn different aspects of working in Italy, and to get to know the characteristics and structure of the Italian workplace.

Offered within the context of LdM Semester and Year Academic Programs, credit-bearing internships and non-credit professional opportunities offer the possibility to learn different aspects of working in Italy, a country known for its artisanal and small business structure.

Students who have successfully completed  an internship/ professional opportunity, are eligible to receive a certificate of participation and a recommendation letter.

Internship

Istituto Lorenzo de’ Medici credit-bearing internships offer the possibility to learn different aspects of working in Italy, a country known for its artisanal and small business structure. Students get to know the characteristics and structure of the Italian workplace.

Students taking an internship must retain a full-time status, with a minimum of 15 credits per semester. Concurrent enrollment in a course in the same field is required.

LdM encourages students to complete one internship in their respective areas of study as they provide a natural path to gain the skills and knowledge in a professional setting. Students in internship programs obtain lifelong skills, cultivate relationships and can develop professional portfolios to help them stand out and compete in the professional marketplace.

LdM offers students the possibility to learn the different aspects of working in companies and workshops, enabling them to explore not only what it is like to be a professional in their chosen field, but to understand the strengths and structure of the Italian business environment.

LdM also arranges art history internships at major churches and museums, as well as with small businesses in topics ranging from Communications to Education, and from Fashion Design to Graphic Design. Also, students have the opportunity to be involved in service learning (in Italian only).

Please note that placement opportunities are limited and vary on each campus. Internships are unpaid: they are available for US credit and in combination with academic courses only.

Professional Opportunities

The Professional Opportunities Program (P.O.) at LdM is a non-credit alternative to internships in Florence. The Program offers students a hands-on learning experience that requires less time and is based upon the completion of one project. The P.O. provides a glimpse into local Italian businesses and gives students the chance to build on their professional experience.

Students collaborate with both the LdM Institute and local Florentine businesses, organizations, and associations.

Please note that all projects in the P.O are unpaid, and that each professional opportunity has specific application requirements.
