From September 17 through October 16, LdM Gallery in Florence will present Wearing INSEN, an
exhibition of contemporary jewelry.
The collective project, born from an idea by designer Gianni Misto and curated by art historian Alice
Rendon, presents seven individual visions, paraphrases of an inspiring musical piece: Insen (2005).
Insen is the second album of five released by the record label Raster-Noton, and is the result of a
collaboration between the Berlin-based visual artist, musician, and producer Carsten Nicolai (alias
Alva Noto) (Karl-Marx-Stadt, 1965) and the Japanese multi-instrumentalist and composer Ryūichi
Sakamoto (Tokyo, 1952 – 2023).
The musical work, which in its original version consisted of seven tracks, is the subject of an artistic
reinterpretation by seven jewelry designers and goldsmiths – Myriam Bottazzi (Milan, 1963), Arata
Fuchi (Shizuoka, 1975), Haruko Ito (Hamamatsu, 1973), Stefania Lucchetta (Bassano del Grappa,
1967), Gianni Misto (Piombino, 1976), Francesca Mo (Milan, 1959), and Cristian Visentin (Varese,
1972) – who are engaged in translating its auditory stimuli into a wearable artwork. The site of
creative action shifts from the realm of auditory perception to that of an experience that is not only
visual, but above all tactile and interactive, through the medium of the jewel.
“The new frontiers of the so-called digital revolution, symbolized here by the explorations of the
musical duo, have, since the 1990s, unlocked previously unthinkable possibilities for the
manipulation of ‘sonic matter’. Similarly, in the field of research applied to body adornment, technical
advancements have radically renewed traditional tools of the trade, while also charting new paths
that branch out, between returns to tradition and forward-looking innovation. In evoking the hybrid
and plural nature of the encounter between the classical harmonic musicality of Sakamoto’s piano
and the cerebral electronic experimentation of Noto, ‘wearing’ Insen becomes both metaphor and
pretext for reflecting on this duality – innate to jewelry just as to any other form of artistic expression.”

The gallery of the Lorenzo de’ Medici (LdM) Institute in Florence, located in the heart of the city
center, will also host, on this occasion, a section dedicated to the work developed as part of the
Jewelry Design course, taught by professor and architect Mauro Vegliante during the Spring term of
the 2025-2026 academic year. The students involved in the Wearing INSEN project — Anna
Berisheva, Carly Joy Gale, Fabiénne van Beek Fay, Rosa Sofie Dein, Sanna Cecilia Petterson, Sara
Jane Dana, and Sonal Hiten Soni — were each invited to create a collection of three jewelry pieces.
The exhibition will showcase the design process that allowed the students to apply the skills acquired
during the course, from CAD drawings to 3D-printed prototypes, to the final pieces cast in metal.
Lorenzo de’ Medici Institute, founded in Florence in 1973, is one of the most established international
institutions of higher education in Italy, offering over 500 courses across 36 departments at its
Florence and Tuscania locations. The LdM Gallery, located on Via de’ Pucci in Florence, is a project
by the Institute: an interdisciplinary space where academic research and artistic experimentation
meet within a professional setting, hosting exhibitions by students and emerging Italian and
