< PreviousJOURNAL 70 71 JOURNAL This dress was designed to be worn by a real Broadway star at the red carpet of the Tony Awards, theatre’s biggest night of the year. My customer is confident, charismatic, elegant, and powerful. She commands every room she enters, and demands a dress that matches her aura. She is somewhere between 30 and 60, and have lived in New York City all of her adult life, where she works as a singer and actress belting on the Great White Way. She is reasonably wealthy, being a celebrity, and has a taste for luxury. This is the gown she would choose to wear to show up everyone else as she collects her third award of the decade in front of everyone who is anyone in the world of theatre. Evening gown overview: constructed from silk dupioni, skirt flatlined with tutu netting for increased volume. Neon lights have been a staple of HK’s nightscape for decades, every corner of the city basking in their gentle glow. When the city’s economy started growing, and a consumerist society quickly developed, many of them are disappearing now, like the democracy in HK. Many things changed due to the return to China in 1997. The things which we loved are disappearing. People fight for freedom in recent years. The photos show the emotions of the helplessness that HK people saw and experiencing the changes in the city but we can’t do anything to help. HK is a small city, with a considerable population, with many skyscrapers everything very crowded. As a Hongkonger, I still love this place, and this is my home.
