< PreviousJOURNAL 240 241 JOURNAL I was inspired by Roy Lichtenstein using the small dots on top of solids to create other colors. The background appears orange and the skin a flesh color from far away. The background also has comments from my professors which I scanned. Some were from memory in which case I wrote myself. These are easier to read when printed (size A4). This was a topic we covered in class in the beginning of the semester, but I wanted to take a different approach to the idea. Instead of focusing on simplicity, I decided to add simple details through shading. I decided to use only blue, but taking a lighter tone, a mid-tone, a dark shade, and the darkest shade into consideration. For my pictograms, I decided to use the favorite things I saw around Italy. One being the Statue of David, the Duomo, and finally, the streets of Italy. These pictograms can easily be understood as a place coming from Italy, and since they all use the same colors, they are cohesive. Taking pictures all around Florence was something that my roommates and I enjoyed and did every week. We loved photography and exploring new places, and that makes a significant part of my experience in the city. I love taking pictures because I genuinely believe that when you seem them, you will remember and sharing everything that the image represents. You will remember the people that you met and the experiences you had at that time. It will make your memories last a lifetime, and it will help you appreciate what you have even more. In the poster, I decided to experiment with the use of color and photo manipulation. I only used one picture as the background and used the grid derived by the root to proportion for the layout of the text and the application of different colors. I used blue, purple, and red to make my composition more interesting. I also have used phrases like ”I’d rather be in Italy” and ”Florence I love you” to complete the poster. The self portrait project was the last one I did, because I wanted to represent myself in the best way. I decided to use a picture of myself in black and white, that my sister took in Madrid. I wanted to use this picture, because I feel like it represent my happiness and my love for traveling and exploring new places. I decided to use a bold colorful typography made by myself, this to create a contrast with the black and white. I also decided to use icons to show my interests. I then also added a quote in my handwriting and placed it on top. I settled on that quote because I believe it is very relevant to the current times, and it is an important reminder.
