< PreviousJOURNAL 160 161 JOURNAL During my time in Italy, the beautiful fountains in Florence and Rome caught my eye. It amazes me that something so minimal is full of character and history, resting in the streets from earlier beginnings. These timeless pieces will forever stand showing their age, but I know that when I return to these cities, I will always be able to find them and remember my time studying abroad. It’s a charming and unique structure that is beautiful and is what inspired my final project. Even though I could not complete this sketch in Florence, I found comfort through the project as it allowed me to reflect on all of the wonderful memories I had made abroad. I hope to return to Florence someday soon and will definitely be packing my art supplies.JOURNAL 164 165 JOURNAL The images I selected are some of my favorite works created this semester. For my final, I chose to work on four still life, two inspired by Giovanna Garzoni, and the other by Paul Cezanne. I decided to sketch still lifes because they seemed very relevant to what’s going on in the world, as everything looks pretty still. Furthermore, the watercolor Duomo that I submitted captures some of my favorite Florentine colors in the architecture. While on a visit to the Galileo Galilei Museum, this artwork caught my eye with the pattern details. Unlike the portraits, they were complex and dramatic scenes: Cupid and Psyche have a very quieting effect; the Laocoon Group stands at the end of the hallway, so powerful with many directions and details.
