< PreviousJOURNAL 180 181 JOURNAL This project was to design an outside shop area that could be used for education purposes, such as to host a presentation and to include a lounge and cafe area. This design was inspired by tree branches and a pergola effect. The pergola effect of the geometric wooden accents allows the space to feel clean and light but reflects the shapes onto the floors and walls, adding interest to the otherwise modern space. This was one of my favorite projects for the semester because it allowed me to explore more architectural and commercial design, which I normally do not do, but enjoyed just the same. Doing an outside building design was new for me as well and playing with shadow and light throughout this design is what I feel like really makes it unique and interesting to look at. Overall rendering: This intricate wood design allows for an airy environment but adds a great amount of interest to the look of the overall shop, especially during the day when the shadows cast the design on the floor and furniture. For the design of the Spring/Summer 2020 windows, the product is brought to life by turning the designs of the scarves into 3 dimensional displays, all inspired by animals. With 110 wildlife themed scarves in the current collection, the natural patterns shine though as the inspiration behind the windows. Representing the window display with manual assimilation magnifies the precedent of their brand. Allowing the public to view the window with the handmade assembly connects the clients to Hermes’ message of humanity. In a way it allows the client to feel as if they are “behind the scenes” in the crafting process. The concept tells a story of how the luxury goods in each window starts as leather pieces, and the tools used, then the finished product. This gives an idea of how some Hermes products are made. The idea of representing a workstation with the artisan’s tools and disassembled leather pieces draws the imagination of the hard work and dedication it takes to produce just one Hermes item. The stairs and linear journey represent the continuous desire to keep learning and creating. This public installation aims to include everyone in its path. Bridge aims to mix the ideas of linear movement. The inspiring precedents include exhibits, transportation, bridges, and the significance of stairs. The multi-functionality of the stairs allows the program to adapt the space depending on its desired function. The one constant is the flow of pedestrains up and over the bridge. This allows them to become a part of the expereience and forces them to see what is taking place.
