< PreviousJOURNAL 150 151 JOURNAL Fenty House is a project designed in English Bay, Barbados. This site was chosen because it is the home island of singer and writer, Rihanna Fenty. The house is half submerged in a tropical jungle and half submerged within an oceanic view on the brink of a cliff. Every room in the house has connection to nature, and is resolved around a central patio with a water mirror containing weeping willows. The goal is to have the presence of nature from insied out, facing toward the ocean’s horizon. The house’s materiality was inspired by the warm color palette from surroundings, using different tones of sand colored marble planks. This, a one story house made for retreat and contemplation to find inspiration for the creation of music. Simplicity and nature are two concepts read throughout the whole project with the means of creating an experience that will touch the user’s soul under these two premises. As doing so, I like to take them a step further, look for the perfect combination of colors and illustration styles for each drawing; so in the end I’m able to showcase my work and be the one inspiring others at developing their own style of architectural illustrations and even hear comments to keep improving my own. The structure is entirely made out of wood. I chose this material because of its capability, and the natural scent. I also chose wood because it can look like a heavy material, but it can be carved in a way that it looks very light and transparent. The good thing is also that the material naturally grows, and can be reused in different ways. The material used for this structure is plywood, because it can be very resistant and stable. It is constructed with two different shades of plywood. This so that the pavillion appears more colorful without loosing the essence of wood. The floor is made of oak in shape of rectangles. Oak is a very common floor material because of the natural appearance, and the strenght and hardness. This pavillion is focused on the sensorial aspects that the wood can offer. One of the aspects is the sense of the smell. The wood has a very nice, natural smell. Therefore, a pavillion completely made from wood would make you feel more in touch with nature.
